এর গল্প জাদু বাস্তবতার কিনার ধরে ছুটে চলে। তাই তাঁর লেখায় জীবন্ত হয়ে ওঠে ল্যাম্পপোস্ট এবং তারা রীতিমতো চলে ফিরে বেড়ায় শহরের একপ্রান্ত থেকে আরেক প্রান্ত। বা কবির মতো একদল কাঠবিড়ালি মধুর ছন্দে মার্চ করতে থাকে আর এক কবির সঙ্গে।

His stories run along the edge of magical realism. That is why, in his writing, lampposts come alive: they roam about, walking from one end of the city to the other, quite literally. Or a group of squirrels march along in sweet rhythm, like poets, alongside a poet.

The squirrels came to my abode a couple of days ago and the thin volume seems to be a storehouse of surprises. I read more than 4 stories out of 10 and they are by no means ordinary that you may read and forget. I won't call them superb creations that transcend time and space, but the style is unique to say the least and the facts touch upon the surrealism of Joy Goswami in places if not the weird singing style of Kumar Gandharb or Prabhakar Karekar, very much liked by some, and very much unliked by many others.

মুরাদুল ইসলামের গল্পের বই “এখানে জাদু শেখানো হয়”। এই বইয়ের একটা গল্প মসলিন চাষি। আমার নিজস্ব ধারণা, বাংলা গল্পের এই সময়টা ভবিষ্যতে মুরাদুলের সময় হিসেবে চিহ্নিত হবে।

One of the stories in this book is "Muslin Farmer." It is my personal belief that this period of Bengali fiction will, in the future, be identified as Muradul's era.

This is indeed a very remarkable piece of work, quite unique in Bangla, I would Say. The surreal nature of the stories, often in a grotesque environment, often in a Franz Kafka type backdrop, is immensely enjoyable. His style is brilliant and I thoroughly enjoyed reading most of it. The last story however is bit Satyajit Ray type, and the theme is quite known to the Bangla readers of occult.

গল্পে মুরাদুল ইসলাম টেনশন তৈরি করতে পারেন। বর্ণনাভঙ্গীটা সুন্দর। আধিভৌতিক ব্যাপারগুলো সব সময়ের প্রেক্ষিতেই প্রাসঙ্গিক মনে হয়। অপরাধ সঞ্চারিত হওয়ার ব্যাপারটা আছে আমাদের মধ্যে। নানারকম অপরাধ, নানারকম মাত্রায়। দুম করে যে শেষ হয়েছে, তাতে দ্যোতনা আরো বেড়েছে গল্পটার।

In his stories, Muradul Islam is able to build tension. The narrative style is beautiful. The supernatural elements always feel relevant across time. The idea of crime being transmitted runs within us — various kinds of crime, at various degrees. The abrupt way it ends has only heightened the story's resonance."

মুরাদুল ইসলামের খুব ছোট্ট একটি গল্পের বই আমার হাতে আসে। বইটির ছোট ছোট গল্পগুলো পড়তে পড়তে একটি গল্পে আমার মনোযোগ আটকে যায়। কারণ গল্পটি আমার ভালো লাগে। যদিও বই বা পত্রিকায় প্রকাশিত কোনো লেখা মীজানুর রহমানের ত্রৈমাসিক পত্রিকায় প্রকাশের নিয়ম নেই, তবু আমি সিদ্ধান্ত নিলাম এই গল্পটি ওই পত্রিকার পরবর্তী সংখ্যায় প্রকাশ করব। .........এই গল্প সম্পর্কে আমার সবচেয়ে গুরুত্বপূর্ণ পয়েন্ট হলো, এটি পাঠকের মনে গভীর এক এমপ্যাথি (সমমর্মিতা, করুণা, মায়া) সঞ্চার করে। লেখকের বয়ানে ও দৃশ্যায়নে সমস্ত বস্তুজগৎ জীবন্ত প্রাণসত্তার মতো হয়ে ওঠে; বিশেষত লাইটপোস্টগুলো, তারা কেউ বুড়ো, কেউ যুবক, কেউ সামনের দিকে ঝুঁকে হাঁটে, কেউ চলে গিটার হাতে নিয়ে…। এবং সবার জন্য পাঠকের মনে এমপ্যাথি জেগে ওঠে। আমি মনে করি, সাহিত্যের অন্যতম প্রধান কাজ পাঠকের মনে এমপ্যাথি জাগানোর মাধ্যমে মানুষে মানুষে যোগাযোগ স্থাপন করা।

A very small book of stories by Muradul Islam came into my hands. While reading through the book's short pieces, my attention became fixed on one particular story, because I liked it. Even though it is not customary for Mizanur Rahman's quarterly magazine to publish writing already published in a book or journal, I nonetheless decided to publish this story in the magazine's next issue. .........My most important point about this story is that it stirs a deep empathy (sympathy, compassion, tenderness) in the reader's mind. Through the writer's narration and imagery, the entire material world comes alive like a living, breathing presence, especially the lampposts: some old, some young, some walking bent forward, some walking off with a guitar in hand… And for every one of them, empathy awakens in the reader's heart.
